LET’S HEAR YOUR STORY
The Arizona Diamondbacks are back in the World Series for the first time since 2001, and it is an achievement 22 years in the making with a bid to bring a second championship title back to Arizona.
In 2001, the Diamondbacks won the World Series in a thrilling seven-game series against the New York Yankees.
Fans can't help but highlight similarities between this year's team and the 2001 Diamondbacks when they claimed their first and only title. Here are a few odd coincidences that indicate that this may be their year to win the World Series.
The following coincidences were posted to X (formerly Twitter) by user @chriismiddleton. And, yes. It seems they are indeed true.
Bird Encounter
Zac Gallen, and for the second time in MLB history, an Arizona Diamondback pitcher accidentally hit and killed a bird with a throw.
Before a game against the Oakland Athletics, Gallen was warming up in the outfield and hit a passing bird.
The first time this happened was in 2001 when Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson threw a pitch in the seventh inning of a spring training game, and the bird's feathers flew everywhere. Sadly, the bird did not survive in that case either.
Seattle hosted the 2001 and 2023 All-Star Game
The league's best baseball players took the field at T-Mobile Park in SODO in the 93rd edition of the MLB All-Star game, with the National League All-Star Team winning 3-2 against the American League.
The Diamondbacks became a franchise in 1998, and since then, the All-Star game has only been hosted in Seattle in 2001 and recently in 2023.
Same 2001 and 2023 dates and first pitches:
The last similarity is that the dates of the 2001 and the 2023 World Series are the same. In 2001, the MLB postseason was postponed as a result of the September 11 attacks. The World Series began on October 27, 2001, the date that the 2023 World Series begins.
Former President of the United States, George W. Bush, president in 2001, threw the first pitch at the World Series Game 3 that year and will do the same for Game 1 of the 2023 World Series at Globe Life Field.
Regardless of the similarities, The Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks' battle for the championship title will be a must-see series that begins on Oct. 27 at 8:03 p.m., ET.
Daniel Weinman was crowned winner of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event on Monday, taking home a record breaking $12.1 million in winnings. Weinman had to outlast the other 10,043 entrants to take home the prize and get his hands on his share of live poker’s largest ever prize pool – a staggering $93,399,900. As well as taking home the prize money, 35-year-old Weinman also got his hands on the WSOP Main Event bracelet. The huge bracelet contains 500 grams of 10-karat yellow gold, as well as 2,352 various precious gemstones.
Daniel Weinman won the World Series of Poker's main event world championship on Monday in Las Vegas, earning $12.1 million along the way. Playing in the tournament for a 16th year, Weinman was tops in a deep pool of 10,043 players vying for $93.39 million. His victory came after just 164 hands at the final table. "I was honestly on the fence about even coming back and playing this tournament," the 35-year-old Atlanta native told reporters afterward. Weinman's final table featured Jan-Peter Jachtmann, who landed in fourth place and took home $3 million, as well as Toby Lewis, who finished seventh and secured $1.42 million. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the main event's entry pool far outpaced the previous record of 8,773 set in 2006. "I've always kind of felt that poker was kind of going in a dying direction, but to see the numbers at the World Series this year has been incredible," Weinman said. "And to win this main event, it doesn't feel real. I mean, [there's] so much luck in a poker tournament. I thought I played very well." Steven Jones finished second, securing $6.5 million. And Adam Walton settled for third and a $4 million prize.
