This week marks the 100th article I’ve written for sportsbookstuff.com. The world has turned over many times since the first article I wrote two years ago. So much water has passed under the world’s bridge in that time it’s hard to keep track of all the events, the stories and the dramas associated with not just sports but life itself. No road in life exists without it’s potholes, there are many detours that either will lead us astray or bring us back to our original course. In a way I’d like to say that sports, and more specifically writing about sports, has kept not only myself but others around me on an even keel even though the team we cheer for doesn’t always win. In sports as in life, anything is possible right? The last time we saw a summer Olympics the world was still in the throes of a pandemic. Everth was still crazyvtgen. There were restrictions galore. Masks, social distancing, lockdowns, vaccines were in many places the order of the day. Entire nations (and continents for that matter) like Australia and New Zealand were still closed to visitors. The games of course took place in Tokyo in a much abriviated manner and atmosphere. I really can’t recall watching too much of it. Holding a swim meet with hardly any spectators just didn’t do it for me however considering the time and energy that nations and cities dedicate to putting on an Olympics the games were held regardless. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The damages a federal jury has ordered the NFL to pay for violating antitrust laws in distributing out-of-market Sunday afternoon games on a premium subscription service is $4,707,259,944.64. The figures from the June 27 judgment against the NFL were listed on the verdict form, which was posted on the case docket Tuesday July 3rd. 2024 Judge Philip S. Gutierrez is scheduled to hear post-trial motions on July 31, including the NFL’s request to have him rule in favor of the league by determining the plaintiffs did not prove their case.

The new stadium on the Vegas Strip will sit on the site of the former Tropicana Hotel and Casino, it is expected to be completed for the start of the 2028 MLB season. Apparently not soon enough for the A’s owner John Joseph Fisher who since decided to let the A’s current lease at the Oakland Coliseum expire, much to the dismay of the local fans. So, instead of staying at the Coliseum, the team will spend three seasons at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, currently the home of the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A affiliate River Cats. This interim move will bring to a close 56 years of professional baseball in Oakland, thus now leaving the city without a single major professional sports franchise for the first time since 1959.
