Michael Porter Jr.'s brother Coban Porter arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide

According to authorities, Coban Porter, the brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr., was detained on Sunday in connection with a tragic automobile collision in Denver.

Porter is accused of vehicular murder and careless driving, according to Denver police spokesman Kurt Barnes, following an incident that killed one person early Sunday morning. According to a Nuggets statement, Michael Porter Jr. was not involved. Porter Jr. was excused from the Nuggets' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday due to "personal circumstances," according to the team.

Porter, a guard for the University of Denver, is 21 years old. According to police, he was arrested after a two-car accident near the DU campus about 1:54 a.m. left one of the drivers dead on the scene. The crash's additional facts were initially unknown.

Porter averaged 11.4 points per game while playing 28 games, including eight starts, for DU last season. He's been out with an ACL injury this season. DU issued the following statement to the Post in response to the incident:

"This is a horrible and painful circumstance, and our hearts go out to everyone involved in the disaster, as well as their families and friends," the statement said. "Any DU community member in need of assistance has 24/7 access to all of our campus and larger community resources, including counseling services."

Porter Jr. is an important starter for the Nuggets, who ended with the best record in the Western Conference on Sunday. He has not officially addressed the matter.
