LET’S HEAR YOUR STORY
Baker Mayfield has endured a difficult season. On Monday, the Carolina Panthers informed him that he would be their third-string quarterback this week, and Mayfield requested his release. The Panthers had no trouble letting him go. He hadn't performed well at any point this season. The Rams gambled on Mayfield. On Thursday night, he made a comeback for the ages during a low period in his career.
Mayfield, who was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday after the Carolina Panthers released him, led a 98-yard drive for a game-winning 23-yard touchdown in the final seconds of Thursday night's 17-16 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Baker Mayfield comes in early
The Rams' starting quarterback was involved in some pregame hijinks. They did not specify whether it would be John Wolford, Mayfield, or Bryce Perkins. They were all engaged. Before the game, all three warmed up. Wolford finally earned the start after taking snaps with the first squad before the game. Mayfield entered the game after the Rams went three-and-out on their first possession.
Mayfield had a good start. On his opening play, he completed a 21-yard throw to Van Jefferson. On his debut possession, he guided the Rams to a field goal. The Rams kept Mayfield, who was grabbed off waivers by the Rams after being released by the Carolina Panthers. In the first quarter, he went 3-of-6 for 65 yards.
Raiders have trouble putting it away
When Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was hit while throwing in the second quarter, he threw an interception into the end zone. To begin the second half, Las Vegas punted twice, including an incomprehensible one on fourth-and-1 near midfield. For a long period, the score was 13-3.
A lengthy pass interference call put the Rams in field goal range. The Rams were then called for a holding penalty on what would have been a first down, and after a third-down throw fell just short of the first-down marker, Rams center Coleman Shelton was called for a personal foul. The Rams were pushed back 15 yards, forcing kicker Matt Gay to try a field goal from 61 yards. He sailed wide left. The Raiders grabbed control of Rams territory and got a field goal to increase the lead to 16-3.

Daniel Weinman won the World Series of Poker's main event world championship on Monday in Las Vegas, earning $12.1 million along the way. Playing in the tournament for a 16th year, Weinman was tops in a deep pool of 10,043 players vying for $93.39 million. His victory came after just 164 hands at the final table. "I was honestly on the fence about even coming back and playing this tournament," the 35-year-old Atlanta native told reporters afterward. Weinman's final table featured Jan-Peter Jachtmann, who landed in fourth place and took home $3 million, as well as Toby Lewis, who finished seventh and secured $1.42 million. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the main event's entry pool far outpaced the previous record of 8,773 set in 2006. "I've always kind of felt that poker was kind of going in a dying direction, but to see the numbers at the World Series this year has been incredible," Weinman said. "And to win this main event, it doesn't feel real. I mean, [there's] so much luck in a poker tournament. I thought I played very well." Steven Jones finished second, securing $6.5 million. And Adam Walton settled for third and a $4 million prize.
