‘None of this means anything if we don’t hang a banner,’ says Celtics’ Jayson Tatum of Suns blowout

The Boston Celtics annihilated the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, but if revenge was a component, it was less so than simply being a part of a larger purpose, according to standout Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, even as he acknowledged the pain of prior defeats to the Suns.

"They kicked our (expletive) the past two times we came here, and we remembered," he said after Boston's 125-98 thrashing. "That was fresh in our minds, and we wanted to have a different conclusion," the St. Louis native explained. "I believe everyone in the locker room understands what we're trying to accomplish," Tatum said.

"We recognize that we have the best record; we're 21-5; with that comes the decision to play the proper way every night, to play as hard as we can on both ends."
